Intellectual Freedom
Tonight, I attended a lecture with Nancy Kranich who is the Chair of the ALA's Intellectual Freedom Committee. It was really interesting. Who knew it was going to be the librarians fighting the good fight for civil liberties? USA PATRIOT act, Copyright Laws, Access to Information... These issues affect a lot of people, just not librarians.
To comment on something on Allison's blog, I agree with her rally cry to boycott Urban Outfitters. They're selling a Voting is for Old People t-shirt. I think it's ugly. It would've been better if they'd decided to do a "Voting is Hip" or "How is a Bill made into Law" tee like their New Jersey: only the strong survive shirt. It would've been more hip, trendy, retro, or whatever adjective they're aiming for.
